ABS opens National Data Acquisition Centre

The ABS has opened the new National Data Acquisition Centre (NDAC) in Geelong as part of its modernisation program.

The NDAC will consolidate the collection of data for all business and household surveys to streamline the process of statistics collection.

It will employ up to 300 staff, including 180 full-time staff, and is equipped with the latest technology.

Deakin University owns the site and has formed a partnership with the ABS as part of the project. The university has completed a purpose-built fit-out for the site using funds largely provided by the Victorian government.

The establishment of the NDAC forms part of a five-year, $257 million project to transform the ABS’s systems and processes.

The Australian Statistician David W Kalisch said the transformation will enable the ABS to deliver the best statistics in more innovative and efficient ways.

“The ABS is one of Australia’s most trusted organisations and our data is the bedrock on which Australians build an understanding of their economy and society. Our transformation program will enable us to continue to provide that vital information,” he said.

“The purpose-built office in Geelong is utilising new technology to give Australians more and easier methods of interacting with us. As technology changes, so will we in order to make it as easy as possible for Australians to provide us with reliable information and more easily access our data.”
