Optus, Macquarie Uni form Cyber Security Hub
Optus Business has teamed up with Macquarie University to establish a Cyber Security Hub, in a move to help business and government protect against ever-increasing cyber threats.
The new Optus Macquarie University Cyber Security Hub will provide research and degree programs, as well as short professional courses and consulting services to private sector and government organisations.
The hub will also offer professional recruiting opportunities and hold cyber awareness events covering topics such as intelligence, technology, finance and governance.
Optus plans to use the partnership to increase awareness and training amongst its own workforce while Macquarie has plans to enhance its teaching and research capabilities.
Together the partners will invest $10 million to establish the new hub. Both Optus and Macquarie University will also provide talent and expertise in areas including IT, economics and criminology.
Commenting on the move, Optus Business Managing Director John Paitaridis said cybersecurity has become a top priority for Australian executives and boards.
“While cyber attacks are increasing in frequency and sophistication, most organisations lack the right expertise and skills across their business to identify and manage these attacks,” he said.
“As organisations adopt more online and digital channels, they also need to have a fully integrated approach to cybersecurity involving all staff training, management buy-in, effective technology solutions and knowledge of today’s cyber threats. The Optus Macquarie University Cyber Security Hub addresses all these areas.”
