Kyndryl expands Skytap platform to Australia

Mission-critical technology services provider Kyndryl has launched its cloud modernisation solution Skytap into the Australian market. The solution, which aims to help businesses migrate business-critical applications to the cloud, is now available to customers in the Microsoft Azure Australia East data centre region in Sydney.

The deployment marks the first expansion of the platform into a new geographic region since Kyndryl acquired Skytap in May last year. It marks the 10th Microsoft Azure data centre region where Skytap has been made available.

Australian users will be able to take advantage of Kyndryl’s years of experience migrating cloud workloads. The company’s IT modernisation services now use Skytap technology to enable migration and transformation of AIX, IBM and Linux on IBM Power and x86 workloads on Azure without the need for application refactoring.

Kyndryl Australia and New Zealand president Ashish Kumar said the expansion of the platform to Australia reflects demand trends shaping the market.

“We’ve seen surging demand for IaaS for Power workloads in Australia, and we expect interest to grow during the coming years as local organisations seek more efficient ways to migrate to the cloud without the need to rewrite or replatform applications,” he said. “I’m looking forward to deepening our already strong relationship with Microsoft to bring this offering to our local organisations to enable them to modernise their mission-critical IT estates to improve operations and deliver greater innovation that improves the customer experience.”

Evan Williams, Director of Microsoft Azure & Security Business Group for Australia and New Zealand, added that the company is “thrilled” to collaborate with Kyndryl to expand the solution to the region.

“This collaboration underscores our commitment to providing innovative cloud solutions that empower local enterprises to seamlessly migrate and modernise their IBM Power workloads,” he said. “By integrating Skytap with Azure’s native services, we are enabling businesses to leverage advanced AI, machine learning, and security capabilities from day one, driving efficiency and business continuity.”
