SAP to offer HANA over IBM cloud
SAP will make its HANA Enterprise Cloud available through IBM’s cloud data centres in a bid to accelerate enterprise cloud adoption.
The partnership is aimed at making it easier for enterprises to deploy SAP software in an IBM cloud environment.
SAP HANA over IBM Cloud will use the open architecture of IBM Cloud Managed Services and SoftLayer. It will enable customers of each company the ability to take advantages of the products and services of the other, including security capabilities.
“This announcement is a significant milestone in the deployment of enterprise cloud,” IBM CEO Ginni Rometty said. “Our secure, open, hybrid enterprise cloud platform will enable SAP clients to support new ways to work in an era shaped by big data, mobile and social.”
Kevin Ichhpurani, SAP head of business development and strategic ecosystem, told IDG News Service that its deal with IBM will give the company greater flexibility to address data sovereignty and privacy concerns among global enterprises stemming from reports of US online surveillance.
He said the deal will give SAP access to 60 data centres besides its own and IBM’s.
IBM already offers SAP applications in its portfolio of managed cloud services.
