AWS launches new generative AI tools

In light of all the attention being paid to generative AI, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced a suite of innovations across its machine learning portfolio of solutions aimed at making generative AI more accessible to customers.

The company has introduced Amazon Bedrock, a new service for building and scaling generative AI applications. Bedrock gives customers easy access to foundation models which form the basis of generative AI tools from AI startup model providers including AI21, Anthropic and Stability AI.

The solution also gives customers exclusive access to the Titan family of foundation models developed in-house by AWS.

Meanwhile AWS has announced the launch into general availability of Amazon EC2 Inf2 instances aimed at lowering the cost to run generative AI workloads. The instances are powered by dedicated AWS Inferentia2 chips to enhance energy efficiency.

AWS has likewise introduced new Trn1n instances powered by AWS Trainium chips. This custom silicon hardware is aimed at allowing customers to train generative AI models faster in a cost-efficient manner.

Finally, AWS is has launched into general availability the Amazon CodeWhisperer solution, which it is making free for individual developers. The platform is designed to allow users to write code more easily through generative AI suggestions and autocomplete options. CodeWhisperer supports a range of coding languages, including Python, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, and C#.

In a blog post, AWS VP of Databases, Analytics, and Machine Learning Swami Sivasubramanian said the company is proud to have played a key role in democratising machine learning (ML) and making it accessible to anyone who wants to use it.

“AWS has the broadest and deepest portfolio of AI and ML services at all three layers of the stack. We’ve invested and innovated to offer the most performant, scalable infrastructure for cost-effective ML training and inference,” he said.

“AI and ML have been a focus for Amazon for over 20 years, and many of the capabilities customers use with Amazon are driven by ML ...We have thousands of engineers at Amazon committed to ML, and it’s a big part of our heritage, current ethos and future.”
