Cloudflare unveils VPC solutions for developers
Cloudflare has unveiled a pair of solutions aimed at helping developers build cross-cloud applications on the Cloudflare Workers developer platform.
The new solutions, Workers VPC and VPC Private Link, are designed to help address limitations with traditional virtual private clouds (VPCs) that can prevent adoption of newer cloud products.
While traditional VPCs require developers to take on complex networking products to connect different environments, the new solutions allow organisations to build applications on Workers and still access their core business data by eliminating the need to pay egress fees for moving data outside of the boundaries of the VPC.
Workers VPC is built for network and compute workloads that are not tied to a single region, and groups an application’s Cloudflare resources into isolated environments for enhanced security. This ensures only resources within a Workers VPC can access one another.
Workers VPC Private Link meanwhile connects a Workers VPC to an external VPC within a public or private cloud, effectively creating a unified VPC across clouds while maintaining security and access controls.
Both solutions are set to be made available later this year.
Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince said the solutions have been created to help provide developers with the freedom to build with Cloudflare Workers despite the limitations imposed by legacy cloud providers.
“Developers deserve to be able to build with whatever tools they want, no matter where their data lives or what infrastructure they rely on,” Prince said. “With our expertise across networking, security and privacy, we have all the right pieces in place that make Cloudflare Workers the best place for developers to build and connect the next generation of applications.”
