Kyndryl expands partnership with Microsoft

IT infrastructure services provider Kyndryl has expanded its strategic partnership with Microsoft in a move to make it easier for customers to move their mainframe data to the cloud.

Under the agreement, Kyndryl will enhance its secure multi-tenant zCloud platform by creating data pipes that enable connections between the mainframe and the Microsoft cloud. Customers will be able to leverage low- or no-code applications using Microsoft Power Platform.

The two companies also plan to combine mainframe data with other internal and external cloud-based data sources that will enable customers to create new applications leveraging modern analytics and data visualisation tools.

Kyndryl will also launch consulting and integration services designed to help customers more efficiently connect mainframe data to Azure Cloud and edge computing environments.

Kyndryl Global Practice Leader for Core Enterprise and zCloud Petra Goude said through the agreement the companies plan to collaborate on mainframe modernisation.

“We are helping customers increase access to valuable mainframe data and leverage new capabilities that will show benefits of cloud automation and insights from their IT environments,” she said.

“Through this initiative, we are teaming with Microsoft to increase flexibility and availability of mainframe data — whether workloads are in the cloud, on premises or at the edge.”

Microsoft Corporate Vice President for Global System Integrator and Advisory Partners Kelly Rogan added that Microsoft’s AI-enabled Power Platform capabilities as well as Kyndryl’s mainframe ecosystem and managed services experience are a powerful combination.

“We’re excited that our expanded collaboration will allow us to deliver new innovations that make it easier for customers to take advantage of the cloud to access data and make informed, data-driven business decisions,” Rogan said.
