Oracle database services available on AWS, Google Cloud

Oracle has announced strategic partnerships with Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud aimed at making Oracle Database Services available on its new partners’ cloud environments.

At the Oracle CloudWorld conferences in Las Vegas this week, Oracle announced the launch of Oracle Database@AWS, an offering that allows customers to access the Oracle Autonomous Database and Oracle Exadata Database Service within AWS.

The new solution will provide customers with a unified experience between Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and AWS, while offering simplified database administration, billing and unified customer support. Customers will also have the ability to connect enterprise data from an Oracle Database to applications running on AWS services including Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), AWS Analytics services, or AWS’s AI and machine learning services such as Amazon Bedrock.

The new offering provides a low latency network connection between Oracle databases and applications on AWS to allow customers to experience the best of both companies, according to Oracle chair and CTO Larry Ellison.

“We are seeing huge demand from customers that want to use multiple clouds. To meet this demand and give customers the choice and flexibility they want, Amazon and Oracle are seamlessly connecting AWS services with the very latest Oracle Database technology, including the Oracle Autonomous Database,” he said. “With Oracle Cloud Infrastructure deployed inside of AWS data centres, we can provide customers with the best possible database and network performance.”

The partnership will also provide flexible options to simplify and accelerate the migration of Oracle databases to the cloud, as well as a simplified procurement experience via the AWS Marketplace and a fully unified support experience from both companies.

Oracle has also enabled seamless integration with the Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) for easier backups, restoration and disaster recovery.

Meanwhile Oracle and Google Cloud have announced the general availability of Oracle Database@Google Cloud in Google Cloud data centres on the US east and west coasts, the UK and Germany. The partnership will expand to regions in Asia–Pacific and other locations worldwide in the coming months.

The collaboration will allow customers to run Oracle Exadata Database Service, Oracle Autonomous Database, and Oracle Database Zero Data Loss Autonomous Recovery Service on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure through Google Cloud regions. Customers will also be able to run applications on Oracle Linux from within the Google Cloud, and take advantage of generative AI capabilities from offerings like Google Cloud’s Vertex AI via Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

Customers will be able to purchase Oracle Database services using their existing Google Cloud commitments, and will be able to leverage Oracle licence benefits such as the Bring Your Own Licence feature through Google Cloud. The collaboration will also enable native integration with Google Cloud’s console, APIs, monitoring and operations.

Google Cloud and Oracle will jointly deliver support for joint services. Customers will meanwhile be able to take advantage of private, high-speed connectivity to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure through Oracle Interconnect for Google Cloud.

“For the first time, the AI and converged database capabilities of Oracle Database 23ai as well as all the automation and tools of Oracle Autonomous Database and Oracle Exadata Database Service are fully integrated with Google Cloud,” said Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Senior Vice President Karan Batta. “This new service combines all of the benefits of OCI database services with Google Cloud services for a seamless multicloud experience, which was unthinkable in the cloud space just a few years ago.”
