Reddit courting developers for new platform
Reddit is calling for Australian developers to join a waitlist for access to its developer platform — a suite of developer tools and resources that will enable and empower developers whose contributions will support millions of users and over 100,000 active communities on Reddit.
The company says building tools and products that create simpler, richer and more relevant experiences for Redditors has always been at the forefront of everything it does. The waitlist is an acknowledgement of the growing number of developers that want to create their own tools, including moderators that have developed tools and bots to improve the function of subreddits.
Currently, third-party developers on Reddit operate primarily as siloed resources for the communities they care about, utilising limited resources and ad hoc support. The Reddit Developer Platform will change all this and the platform will serve as an avenue for third-party developers to build meaningful Reddit extensions for users.
Reddit says the move will help provide and maintain alignment with those building tools around the company’s guiding principles and broader values, even as it continues to grow and scale.
The initial rollout will provide an easy way for all to find resources and tools, participate in Reddit’s beta and get the best answers to their questions, quickly.
Those interested in being part of the beta program can sign up for the waitlist here.
