Thales, Google Cloud step up cloud security
High technology company Thales and Google Cloud have launched a new joint product aimed at strengthening data security for customers migrating their workloads to the cloud.
The joint solution uses Google Cloud’s Ubiquitous Data Encryption, leveraging the combined power of Google Cloud’s Confidential Computing solution — which encrypts data in use while it is being processed — with Thales’s CipherTrust Cloud Key Manager.
The integrated solution is designed to allow organisations to store and use highly sensitive data on the Google Cloud Platform, by only granting access to data usage via a confidential Virtual Machine with encryption keys hosted outside of the platform.
The CipherTrust Cloud Key Manager will allow users to create encryption keys and establish rules for wrapping and unwrapping each key, which represents a new use case for Thales’s Hold Your Own Key.
Thales VP of Encryption Products Todd More said the joint launch represents an expansion of the company’s existing partnership with Google Cloud.
“Since 2017, we have been working together with Google Cloud to make it possible for enterprises to put their trust in the cloud with more sovereign control over their data security. Recently, we have announced in France the co-development a trusted cloud that will also rely on our CipherTrust solutions,” he said.
“Our support of Google Cloud’s Ubiquitous Data Encryption is another indication of our shared vision to deliver organisations around the globe with solutions that allow them to securely control and manage their data no matter where it resides.”
