Seagate Technology plc has released the Seagate NAS HDD 8 TB, a high-capacity drive optimised for RAID, network-attached storage (NAS) and server storage. The scalable drive offers cloud and multimedia storage for the growing data challenges of small and medium-sized businesses (SMB), small office/home office (SOHO) and creative professional segments, and is optimised so fewer drives are required to meet data storage needs.

The 8 TB drive is designed for tower enclosures with 1 to 8 bays, delivering up to 64 TB in a single 8-bay desktop form factor. This high storage density gives businesses the high capacity and flexibility to address the data challenges immediately while also preparing for the future.

The product is optimised for a diverse set of NAS use cases including backup and disaster recovery, print and file servers, multimedia storage, archiving, file sharing and virtualisation. It is compatible with a number of products from NAS manufacturers such as ASUSTOR, QNAP, Synology and Thecus. Other features include: 180 TB/year workload rate limit (WRL); MTBF of 1 m h; 3-year limited warranty; and optional 3-year rescue data recovery service to protect against potential data loss.
