Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance 2580 with 1 TB drives

Thursday, 11 March, 2010

The Data Warehouse Appliance 2580 with 1 TB drives, in addition to the current 300 and 450 GB drives, is suitable for a wide range of users’ performance and data volume needs.

A scalable, easy-to-use, analytic engine, its performance has been enhanced with Database 13, with Intel Xeon Nehalem processors that are capable of hyper-threading and three times the amount of memory.

Data scalability has been doubled over the previous version with the addition of 1 TB drives and, depending on users’ analytic needs, the appliance can now scale from 2 to over 500 TB of user data.

With rewritten and simplified documentation providing step-by-step instructions, users can get started within hours of delivery.

The database offers improved query optimiser performance and in-database data mining and geospatial capabilities and the company’s customer service has added two additional levels of support.

Data loading has been simplified with EasyLoader, allowing a single-step execution to load data into the appliance.

With its capacity for co-residency, Teradata is claimed to be the only vendor that enables users to extend the appliance life span beyond the technology refresh period. Co-residency is the technical capability to connect and work in tandem with the previous version and future versions of the appliance. It is no longer necessary to do an expensive ‘floor sweep’ in order to refresh all hardware platforms.

Its energy-efficient processors are housed in a cabinet designed to reduce heat output and the Teradata platform range requires reduced floor space for the same processing capability.

The purpose-built platform range allows users to optimise their data warehouse environment and the Active Enterprise data warehouse platform meets the demanding requirements in the industry. For those who require departmental analytics or have core decision support requirements, users can choose the Data Mart appliance or the Data Warehouse appliance. Users who have analytical archival needs can load historical data, typically off-loaded to tape, into the Extreme Data appliance and directly query it for analytics or compliance requirements.
