LEDC opens new data centre in Albury Wodonga

Leading Edge Data Centres (LEDC) has opened the fourth of its 26 planned regional data centres, a new $7 million facility in Albury Wodonga.

Partner Schneider Electric has completed construction of the new Tier III data centre, which was designed based on LEDC’s specifications.

The data centre will provide improved connectivity and reduced latency to Albury Wodonga and the greater Riverina region, according to LEDC CEO Chris Thorpe.

“We are thrilled to launch the Albury Wodonga data centre, providing more choice for local consumers and businesses when it comes to high-speed internet and direct cloud connectivity,” he said. “It’s more important than ever before for our metropolitan and regional communities to be digitally connected with equivalent capabilities.”

LEDC is rolling out a footprint of 26 planned data centres across regional hubs in NSW, Victoria and Queensland. The company has to date opened data centres in Newcastle, Tamworth and Dubbo.

Albury City Mayor Kylie King added that the new data centre is an important milestone for the region. “This new facility will give existing businesses more options for innovation and growth, whilst enhancing our attractiveness as an investment location,” she said.

“It will bring us up to speed with capital cities like Sydney and Melbourne and allow us to operate more effectively in a global market.”
