AI-powered learning design tools empower educators
Generative AI-powered course-authoring tools were recently launched by OpenLearning, looking to change the way education providers create and deliver content.
Developed on Microsoft Azure’s OpenAI Service, these tools utilise the power of GPT-4 APIs, streamlining course design and helping to reduce the time and effort required to develop high-quality short courses, micro-credentials and online degrees.
The embedded generative AI provides tailored suggestions to educators during the course design process, helping them create more engaging and effective learning experiences.
“Building these tools using Azure OpenAI Service has allowed us to develop a truly innovative solution that will enable education providers to design high-quality courses faster and more efficiently than ever before,” said Adam Brimo, CEO of OpenLearning.

To uphold the integrity of education, OpenLearning will not provide access to generative AI tools to students through its platform. Instead, the company will concentrate on supporting educators in their course creation and delivery process.
OpenLearning will provide access to the AI-powered tools to selected partners to gather feedback and measure their effectiveness. The participants of the pilot program include Western Sydney University, Education Centre of Australia, Universiti Tenaga Nasional Malaysia (UNITEN), Sunway University Malaysia and University of Wollongong KDU Malaysia.

Already one of the world’s largest online education platforms with over three million learners and more than 200 universities and colleges, OpenLearning expects that its AI-powered course authoring tools will attract more institutions to its platform as the efficiency gains from these new tools become apparent.
One of OpenLearning’s critical design features is its ability to capture students’ learning processes, assessing ‘how a student learned’ rather than ‘what they know’. This evidence-based approach to learning combats the potential misuse of generative AI by students and provides education providers an insight into students’ capability even when they use generative AI, ensuring the integrity and quality of education.
