Green energy funding for schools

Schools in WA have been invited to apply for a second round of clean energy funding to help them reduce energy costs.

The state government’s $44.6 million Schools Clean Energy Technology Fund will see solar panels and virtual power plants installed at public schools across WA over four years.

Successful applicants will receive a solar energy system to meet the energy needs of the school population.

The fund is already helping 91 schools to become more energy efficient through renewable electricity that reduces their costs and greenhouse gas emissions.

Schools without existing solar installations and with high energy use can apply for the energy-saving scheme in future funding rounds.

The Schools Clean Energy Technology Fund aligns with the Western Australian Climate Change Policy.

“As the state’s largest employer, and a major influencer of young people, the Department of Education has an important role in promoting sustainability in the community,” said Sue Ellery, Education and Training Minister.

“We are committed to making changes and funding new initiatives that reduce the impact that schools have on the environment.

“I encourage eligible schools to apply for round two of the Schools Clean Energy Technology Fund, which enables schools to save money while having a positive environmental impact.

“The fund also provides opportunities for students to learn how to be more energy efficient and contribute to making a positive difference in climate change action.”
