Online celebrations for NSW Education Week

Education Week has been celebrated online in NSW, as students continue to learn remotely.

The week began with a livestream launch, featuring stories from students across the state.

Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning Sarah Mitchell also used the start of Education Week to thank students, teachers, early childhood educators and parents for their contribution to the education system over a challenging 18 months.

“Our schools have successfully managed droughts, bushfires, floods and a pandemic, and it is all thanks to the efforts of all the people who make up each individual school community,” Mitchell said.

Education Week has been a highlight of the NSW public education calendar for more than 60 years.

“Teachers have stepped up in every aspect. Despite the challenges, schools were prepared for this current lockdown in Greater Sydney and continue to improve,” Mitchell said.

“As recently as last week, our teachers spent time upskilling in their remote teaching practices, with nearly 2000 teachers attending our live sessions, and over 2500 viewings of recorded webinars.

“Our early childhood educators continue to provide vital services for families during the pandemic, highlighting their commitment each and every day to helping our littlest learners get the best start in life.

“From quality early childhood education, through primary and secondary schools and onto higher education, together we are ensuring all our students are equipped with the skills they need to lead rewarding lives as engaged citizens.”
