WA's ICT workforce to grow by 6500 by 2023
Western Australia’s ICT workforce is projected to grow by 6500 by 2023 as digital disruption continues to sweep across the state, according to ACS.
The professional association’s latest Australia’s Digital Pulse report projects that there will be 56,619 ICT workers in the state by 2023, with demand growing at an average annual growth rate of 2.1%.
ICT industry administrative and logistics positions is expected to be the fastest growing category with an estimated 3.4% annual growth rate from 2017 to 2023. But demand for ICT management and operations staff, as well as ICT sales positions, will be close behind with growth rates of 3.2%.
But the number of ICT technical and professional positions is expected to stay relatively flat with just a 0.2% average annual growth rate.
ACS WA Branch Chair Michelle Sandford said the projected growth of the state’s digital economy is a testament to the hard work being done progressing the economy from a resource base to a digital future.
“Of particular importance is the projected growth in the ICT management space. Thanks to our geography we are perfectly positioned to build our service exports market into Asia, and what we will see in the near future is more global organisations establishing a presence here in the West.”
