ANZ appoints its first chief data officer
ANZ has appointed Emma Gray as the bank’s first chief data officer, with responsibility for managing the bank’s total data strategy.
In her new role, Gray will be responsible for defining how data is gathered, managed and protected. She will report to ANZ’s group executive for digital banking, Maile Carnegie, the former head of Google Australia, who herself joined ANZ in March.
“As our chief data officer, Emma will play a crucial role in ANZ’s digital transformation,” Carnegie said.
“How we strategically manage and use our data is fundamental to how we can deliver the best experiences for our customers and build a world-class digital bank.”
Gray joins ANZ from Woolworths, where she was chief loyalty and data officer, reporting directly to the CEO. Prior to Woolworths, Gray was a partner at Bain & Company, having worked across Australia, the US and Europe for 15 years.
Gray’s appointment follows ANZ’s reshuffle of IT executives following the departure of the company’s CIO, CTO and COO. As part of this reshuffling, Gerard Florian was appointed as group executive in charge of technology.
