Australian medical app wins ICT award
Smartphone medical app eRx Express took out this year’s Victorian Innovation Award for Health at the iAwards, Australia’s premier awards recognising the innovations of Australian ICT companies, held in Melbourne on 4 June.
The iAwards are hosted by the Australian Computer Society (ACS), Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) and the Pearcey Foundation to recognise companies at the cutting edge of technology and to reward innovations that can positively impact on the community.
All state winners then take part in a national judging process, with national iAwards winners to be announced on 29 August. eRx Script Exchange also received the iAwards Victorian Innovation Award for Health in 2009.
eRx Express is a free smartphone app that enables people to scan and pre-order their scripts for collection at a time and date that suits, with ongoing innovations such as script reminders to help make managing medicines easier and safer.
eRx Script Exchange developed the eRx Express app to make it easier for customers to manage their script medicines and to provide greater flexibility in how people engage with pharmacy.
The app was rolled out Australia-wide in collaboration with leading medical and pharmacy IT companies, which integrated eRx into their software and made it available to doctors and pharmacists as part of standard software updates.
In six years, the eRx eHealth network has grown to include 20,000 GPs and 4300 pharmacies who are now transmitting an average 4.5 million scripts each week.
