Big data expert to present lecture for UTS
Big data expert Viktor Mayer-Schönberger will give a lecture for the UTS on Thursday focused on exploring what the technology means for companies in Australia and overseas.
Mayer-Schönberger is professor of internet governance and regulation at the Oxford Internet Institute and faculty affiliate at Harvard’s Belfer Center of Science and International Affairs. He will use the lecture to share insights from his extensive research into big data and its impact.
The lecture will be followed by a roundtable conversation from an expert panel exploring the implications of big data trends in Australia. The participants will explore aspects including technology, innovation, privacy and security.
Panellists will include Associate Professor Paul Kennedy, director of the UTS’s Knowledge Infrastructure Laboratory and Dr Kate Cornick, executive director of the Institute for a Broadband-Enabled Society.
Rounding out the panel will be Professor Louisa Jorm, foundation director of the UNSW’s Centre for Big Data Research in Health, and Brad Lorge, managing director of logistics software start-up Premonition.
The event, part of the UTS Zunz Lecture Series, will take place at the Turbine Hall of the Powerhouse Museum in Ultimo at 6.30 pm on Thursday.
