CQUniversity selects new student management software supplier

TechnologyOne has been awarded a multimillion-dollar contract with CQUniversity to replace the university's Oracle Peoplesoft system with new Student Management software.

The deal, which was won after a formal tender process, will see the first phase of the new software go live in July 2014, as part of CQUniversity's merger with CQ TAFE. The merger - made possible by $73.8 million in Commonwealth Government funding - will produce Queensland's first dual-sector university, with 22 campuses and sites across four states, and more than 30,000 enrolled students.

At present, both institutions use Oracle Peoplesoft’s ISAS solution, with the Queensland Department of Education, Training and Employment externally managing the TAFE system.

Initially, TechnologyOne's Student Management system will manage student information in the VET area with tertiary students to follow, with the aim of reducing the online admissions process from enquiry to offer down from weeks to days.

Student Management will enable students, academics, administrators and partners to connect through one application, to enrol and pay fees, monitor student progression and completion, facilitate graduations and produce reports for government.

"Our existing student management system did not meet the required scope of what is needed in the new institution and customising it would have been too costly and time-consuming," CQUniversity Vice-Chancellor Professor Scott Bowman said. "The fact that TechnologyOne Student Management is a proven, preconfigured solution was critical because the TAFE side of our business must be ready go-live in July 2014.

"Another deciding factor was TechnologyOne’s status as an Australian company, with a Queensland-based R&D and support centre," Professor Bowman said.
