DocuSign to open Australian data centre

Digital signature and transaction management company DocuSign has revealed plans to launch a Microsoft Azure-based data centre in Australia to better serve both the public and private sectors.

The new data centre is expected to come online early next year and will be designed to aim to meet the government’s requirements for handling classified and sensitive data.

“The investment in a local data centre is just part of our commitment to helping the government be ‘digital-ready’ by providing a simple way to meet its targets around customer-facing interactions taking place online,” DocuSign APAC VP Brad Newton said.

“We’re looking forward to supporting the next phase of digital transformation with the National Digital Economy Strategy in 2018.”

Telstra is a partner in DocuSign through a strategic investment by venture capital arm Telstra Ventures. The telecoms operator plans to use DocuSign’s expanded presence in Australia to provide customised digital solutions incorporating DocuSign to help federal government departments replace paperwork with secure, online-accessible digital documents.

“Since Telstra Ventures invested in DocuSign in 2014, the company has grown significantly in Australia. We’re now seeing strong potential for collaboration between DocuSign and our other portfolio companies such as Whispir, especially in the government sector,” Telstra Ventures MD Matthew Koertge said.
