FinTech award finalists announced
Nearly 60 finalists in the inaugural industry-backed Australian FinTech awards have been announced, including finalists in the headline FinTech leader and organisation of the year award categories.
The finalists were selected from 158 award entries across 30 categories.
A total of 39 judges, including 16 from overseas, rated the different award entries to determine the 58 finalists. The award category winners will be announced at a gala ceremony in Sydney on the night of Wednesday, 24 May.
“We were flooded with incredibly high-quality entries for our awards — the judges had to make some difficult decisions to choose the finalists,” FinTech Australia CEO Danielle Szetho said.
“Not surprisingly, we received most interest for our FinTech Organisation of the Year and Emerging FinTech Organisation of the Year awards, given the prestige of these award categories. In some cases, a mere three points separated half a dozen finalists.
“Given this is the first time we’ve held the Finnies, we’re very excited with the response we received from the FinTech community. We’re also enjoying using these awards to promote the great work and innovation of our FinTech companies.”
NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Small Business John Barilaro said he was delighted to hear that 39 of the 58 finalists for the inaugural Finnies awards — more than two-thirds — were from NSW.
“NSW is at the heart of Australia’s financial services industry — home to 54% of the nation’s FinTech sector — so to get 67% of the Finnies finalists from NSW is a great achievement,” Barilaro said.
“Congratulations to all the finalists and best of luck for the upcoming awards. The NSW government, through Jobs for NSW, has provided $80,000 for a two-year sponsorship of the Finnies in recognition of the value and jobs that the growing FinTech industry brings to our economy.”
Of the 58 finalists, some 49 are companies and a further nine are individuals. The full list of finalists can be found here, while the finalists in the Emerging FinTech Organisation of the Year and FinTech Organisation of the Year categories are as follows:
