Free Windows 10 update coming in August
Microsoft will launch its Windows 10 Anniversary Update in August, introducing a revamped Edge browser, new functionality and security features for consumers and businesses.
The free update will be launched on the 2nd of August. The update will bring new improvements including the ability to sign in using biometric authentication over Windows Hello.
Microsoft’s Edge browser has meanwhile been revamped with new power-saving and efficiency improvements, and to add Edge extensions to the Windows Store.
The Windows Defender anti-malware program has been upgraded with the option to automatically schedule periodic scans and provide notifications when scans are complete or threats have been found.
New security features for enterprise customers include advanced threat protection functionality for Windows Defender and a Windows Information Protection suite designed to separate personal and organisational data.
The update will also integrate the Windows Ink digital pen input application into Office and other applications.
For schools, Microsoft has introduced a new app to enable teachers or administrators to easily set up a shared cart of devices with dedicated IT support.
“When we introduced Windows 10, our vision was not only to deliver the best and most secure version of the OS ever, it was also to create an experience that would keep getting better,” Microsoft Windows and Devices Group Executive VP Terry Myerson said.
“The Windows 10 Anniversary Update is a great example of this — and we look forward to building on it even further in the future.”
