ICT Geelong appoints new chair
Advocacy group ICT Geelong has appointed Nick Stanley, CEO of education software provider Sky Software, to be its new chair.
ICT Geelong aims to promote the Geelong region as a major Victorian ICT precinct. It represents the technology industry in the region.
Stanley said he joined the body to help raise awareness of the region’s emerging technology sector and build closer ties with government organisations, businesses and other industry bodies.
“While the Geelong region has not historically been recognised for its IT innovation, a growing number of technology companies are choosing to stay in one of Victoria’s emerging ICT hubs rather than relocating to a city business district or overseas,” he said.
“There are now over 4000 people employed by 300 technology companies based in the Geelong Region.”
As one of the first regions in Australia to receive the NBN, the Geelong area provides access to advanced network infrastructure, he said.
Another priority will be building closer partnerships between Geelong ICT companies and the burgeoning Southeast Asia region.
“The high demand for export services in Southeast Asia, coupled with the mature infrastructure and innovation offered in Geelong, presents tremendous opportunities for ICT Geelong,” Stanley said.
