IFS to provide ERP system for Mid West Ports
Mid West Ports Authority has contracted IFS to provide applications to help it improve operational efficiency and accommodate growth.
The authority, which manages a busy Western Australian port at Geraldton, will implement IFS Applications as an integrated enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
The new suite will replace a number of Mid West Ports’ existing IT systems, and be used to support the authority’s operational and financial processes, real-time decision-making and mobile information access.
“The only way a port like Geraldton can continue to grow is through more efficient processes,” Mid West Ports general manager for corporate services David Geldart said. “To achieve that we need accurate, timely and complete information across our entire operations.”
Using the new system, financial processes will be automated, he said. IFS Applications will also be used to improve coordination of staff resources and asset maintenance.
Midwest Ports is governed by a board of directors appointed by the state’s minister for transport. The organisation controls the Geraldton port, facilitates trade and looks after the port’s land and infrastructure.
Cargo tonnage growth at the port exceeded 20% last year, prompting the authority to explore ways to improve operational and process efficiency.
