Sitback to commercialise CSIRO's web analytics tool

Sydney user experience agency Sitback Solutions has won an exclusive three-year agreement to bring to market the LATTE web optimisation tool developed by CSIRO digital innovation group Data61.

LATTE software reveals patterns in how people interact with websites, highlighting any usability issues. Unlike conventional web analytics tools, LATTE provides data based on all the pages viewed in one session by one customer, rather than on a page-by-page basis.

The technology was originally developed to help improve the federal Department of Human Services website and is currently being used to optimise other federal government websites.

Sitback secured the three-year agreement in a tender process involving high-profile management and digital consultancies.

The company will use the LATTE technology to target organisations with transitional websites where users have a specific task to complete, such as government departments, universities, banking and insurance sites, and corporate intranets.

Sitback founding partner Paul Armstrong commented that more than three quarters of Australians prefer to access services online but can be driven away by frustrating experiences.

“With a high percentage of Australians using websites for transactional purposes, it’s vital that the user experience is effortless. LATTE enables organisations to ensure this by analysing a user’s entire journey on a session-by-session basis and optimise that experience where necessary,” he said.

“The technology Data61 have developed is world-leading and Sitback is delighted to have been selected by CSIRO to bring it to market. Our teams of UX [user experience] and developers will continue to enhance LATTE as we put it to work in optimising user journeys.”
