Sponsoring ICT: Dominello accepts role as patron of the ACS Foundation

As the NSW Government pushes the technology agenda, NSW Minister for Innovation Victor Dominello has partnered with the ACS Foundation to help build up NSW's next generation of ICT professionals.

The Minister will be the first patron of the ACS Foundation in NSW.

The foundation's charter is to encourage private and public sponsorship of ICT higher education and research initiatives and works towards helping students access internships and jobs in the industry.

“As patron of the ACS Foundation I can lend my name, and the commitment of the NSW Government, to developing awareness about how vital innovation is to our state," said MP Dominello.

“We must have access to appropriately skilled people to resource a technology-driven economy, to make our agenda a reality.

“The foundation exemplifies what can happen when the education sector and industry join forces to create work-ready professionals."

Since 2001 the foundation has raised over $55 million to award over 5000 scholarships.

In his newly created portfolio, Dominello is responsible for the NSW Government's ICT Strategy as well as an ambitious range of open government, data analytics, innovation and regulatory reform initiatives.

John Debrincat, chair of the ACS Foundation, said Dominello is an energetic champion of innovation and ICT.

“Victor is very clear about what he is trying to achieve with his new portfolio — he's the right person with the right message. The ACS Foundation is honoured that he sees such a deep synergy between his and our efforts as we raise the profile of careers in ICT," he said.

Dominello's first activity as patron was to officiate at the NSW Chapter's presentation event, held last night at Parliament House in Sydney.

He presented certificates to around 170 NSW students who have been awarded ACS Foundation scholarships since July 2014, based on industry donations valued at more than $4 million.

Across the country, the foundation has sponsored more than 500 ICT scholarships since July last year valued at nearly $10 million
