Startup develops gamified health training platform
Melbourne-based startup Enabler Interactive is developing technology aimed at solving the crisis facing Australia’s disability and aged care services sector, which is struggling to find over 90,000 qualified carers.
The company’s gamified ed-tech training platform could help address the shortage by preparing carers for real life, on-the-ground situations.
The platform provides access to a number of training modules to help teach and train people about real-life scenarios they may face on the job.
Combining video games and reward-based learning, Enabler’s 3D simulation technology can be accessed over any type of device to support remote learning and provide easier access to regional support workers.
The platform currently supports six training modules, with another seven being progressively added. Enabler has partnered with major Australian support providers including Scope, Mable and icare, and has raised $1.17 million in seed funding.
Enabler Interactive Founder and CEO Huy Nguyen said engaging educational tools are key for tackling the churn problems facing the health sector.
“A book cannot prepare someone for the hard work required and people often lose interest while learning. Scenario-based tech tools can help attract a younger generation of support workers and we’re working with universities on this,” he said.
“Our tech also helps to retain talent for the long haul as the workers don’t get as much of a shock when faced with unexpected scenarios out in the field. Furthermore, we find that tech modules are a great resource for those who have been working in the industry for decades and don't have time to study new compliance. They can simply get a refresher on their phones of all new protocols and policies.”
