Two in three Aussie IT pros expect a pay hike in 2016
Nearly two-thirds of Australian IT professionals expect to receive a salary increase in 2016, indicating improving confidence in the employment market, according to Robert Walters.
A survey by the recruitment firm also indicates that 70% of IT professionals are looking to change roles, with the main motivations being career progression (33%) and seeking an improved salary (29%).
Salaries for IT professionals were relatively stagnant in 2015, leading to strong expectations for a pay increase after a delay, the research suggests.
Robert Walters Associate Director for IT in Melbourne Ben Brown said the reasons behind the expectations of a pay increase vary from state to state.
“For some this may be due to improved economic conditions in their state and for others it could mean they are looking to change roles to achieve these increases,” he said.
“We have found again that IT professionals value opportunities for career progression when it comes to job satisfaction and looking to change roles. However, a competitive salary is always an important factor when looking to attract good talent.”
Fulfilling these conditions will be even more important as the recruitment market becomes more competitive, Brown added.
