Guide maps the IT frameworks with other standards

More than 80% of organisations worldwide say they measure the value of their investments in IT, yet fewer than 60% use a framework or follow guidelines for selecting the investments that will result in the greatest value, according to the global Value of IT Investments survey conducted by ISACA.

To help enterprises integrate best practices to improve their value management and governance, ISACA has released a new mapping guide. Val IT Mapping:  Mapping of Val IT 2.0 to MSP, PRINCE2 and ITIL V3 provides overviews of all four best practices, as well as high-level and detailed mappings.

The guide covers the following complementary frameworks and best practices:
  • Val IT, a collection of proven management practices and techniques related to IT-enabled investments, which focuses primarily on the full life cycle of the governance of IT-enabled investments (for business and IT executives).
  • Managing Successful Programs (MSP), which focuses on managing programs in the life cycle, which corresponds to the investment management domain of Val IT (for program sponsors and managers).
  • Projects in Controlled Environments (PRINCE2), which focuses mainly on the aspects of managing projects in the life cycle (for project managers and sponsors).
  • IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL), which focuses on the governance of the service management life cycle (for operational managers).

“One of Val IT’s strengths is that it integrates value governance, portfolio management and investment management into one framework,” said Peter Harrison, a developer and co-author of Val IT. “This mapping will help organisations benefit from the breadth of Val IT and the depth of other complementary best practice frameworks.”
