ICT is Australia's fifth top-paying industry
ICT is the fifth top-paying industry in Australia, while specialised ICT roles dominate the list of top-paying individual jobs, according to the latest data released by employment marketplace SEEK.
ICT roles are commanding an average advertised salary of $104,874 in 2018, an increase of 7.3% over a five-year period. This puts the industry within spitting distance of the top-paying industry — the mining, resources and energy sector ($116,108).
Drilling down to the highest-paying jobs, the ICT sector dominates, with six roles featuring in the top 20.
This includes the top-paying position in the country — ICT architects, who commanded an average salary of $138,144. It also includes the third-highest — ICT management roles, with an average salary of $132,307.
After ICT architects and managers, the third most top-paying ICT jobs are security roles ($122,753), followed by product management and development ($120,740) and team leaders ($119,078).
“What we are seeing is that candidates in information and communication technology are more motivated by salary and compensation than those in any other industry,” SEEK Managing Director for ANZ Kendra Banks said.
“Other factors that are of importance when considering roles within ICT are work-life balance and career development opportunities. We expect to see salaries for ICT roles continue to strengthen across every sector in the coming years.”
