Thursday, 04 November, 2010

Tellabs has announced the creation of an innovation solutions research lab in Melbourne. The lab is expected to create up to 25 jobs in Australia before the end of 2011.

“The opening of this lab is an important step for Tellabs in Australia since it expands our ability to support and test cutting-edge technology here,’’ said Ralph Candiloro, vice president of Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

“Tellabs is delighted to be expanding its presence in Melbourne, particularly as the company sees huge opportunities to deliver its innovative solutions to major projects around the country,’’ said  Candiloro.

“The Melbourne lab will work with other Tellabs R&D facilities around the world, which will help us continue to bring cutting-edge innovation to the market.”

Candiloro said that, through major investment in the R&D of Tellabs’ GPON products, Tellabs is able to offer a greener technology, limitless bandwidth potential that uses 70% less power, compared with overlay solutions.

Since setting up its Australian headquarters in Melbourne in 2006, Tellabs has increased its staff by 300% while becoming a leading provider to Telstra and expanding into New Zealand.

Victorian Minister for Information and Communication Technology John Lenders said the company’s ability to grow and expand from Victoria was testament to the state’s ability to attract major global companies.

“International technology leaders such as Tellabs are looking to invest more capital, more jobs and spur more economic development in Melbourne to take advantage of the city’s reputation as the telecommunications hub of Australia,” said  Lenders.

“By establishing its Innovation Services Research Lab in Melbourne, Tellabs is strengthening its position in the Asia-Pacific region and positioning itself as a leader in emerging technologies."
