Technology Accelerator Program spurs on WA innovators

Western Australian start-ups, established businesses and researchers working on innovative location-based products or services have been urged to apply for the SPUR Location Technology Accelerator Program. The program features a $25,000 grant for up to six successful applicants, with access to information sessions focused on working with WA Government data and processes.

Successful applicants will receive seed funding and insight into WA Government location data, products, policies and processes, which are currently not available through any single source. Applicants must demonstrate how their ideas harness location datasets to deliver value or improvements to government services provided for the community.

Successful applicants could use this opportunity to develop mobile apps, secure intellectual property rights, obtain strategic advice and launch new products to market. Lands Minister Ben Wyatt said the program is a prime example of ‘one-sector thinking’, creating strategic outcomes for multiple aligned agencies and organisations.

“It is great to see a collaborative approach between key WA Government agencies and Curtin University helping to accelerate ideas into action and support start-up businesses, researchers and commercial partnerships,” said Wyatt.

The 2020 program is delivered through a collaborative partnership with the Department of Finance, Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, DevelopmentWA and Curtin University.

“Landgate's SPUR Location Technology Accelerator program fosters the McGowan government’s vision to continue to grow and diversify the WA economy to create the jobs of the future,” said Wyatt.

Grants will be offered under three categories: $25,000 to a First Nations candidate funded by the Department of Finance; $25,000 for a research grant to a Curtin University recipient; and $25,000 each for the remaining four funding places. Applications close on 25 September 2020.
