Women in AI Awards for Australia, NZ now open

The Women in AI Awards 2021 are open for entry for female entrepreneurs in the AI field, based in Australia and New Zealand, in an early stage start-up that is founded or co-founded by a woman. The WAI Awards feature 11 categories of entry covering technologies in artificial intelligence, and will be presented on 23 February 2021 at Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art. Award-winning journalist and NITV Science & Technology Editor Rae Johnston will host the awards.

“When the teams of people behind the artificial intelligence that impacts on all of our lives are diversified, we can ensure the technology is not only more beneficial but less discriminatory. I'm thrilled to be hosting the Women in AI Awards — an event created to honour those who are leading the way, making sure the present and future of AI is ethical and inclusive,” said Johnston.

Covering health, mining, finance, law, agribusiness, cybersecurity, education, defence, infrastructure, manufacturing and innovation, the awards are open to entry to Australian and New Zealand female entrepreneurs in the AI field who have founded or co-founded a company and who have a working product. The company must be younger than five years old and have raised less than $5 million.

In addition to the Industry Awards, $20,000 prize money will be shared amongst the winner and runners up of the Grant Award: the Australia–New Zealand WAI Entrepreneur of the Year. Australia is the first country outside of Europe to hold the awards.

Women in AI is a global network of female experts and professionals working in AI, who strive to make the sector more gender-inclusive and to educate the next generation of female entrepreneurs.
