ATEN software-installation-free over IP system

The ATEN CN9600 KVM over IP Switch enables remote access to research equipment, such as electron microscopes. A software-installation-free over IP system based on the CN9600 KVM over IP Switch was used by students and researchers at Kanazawa University to continue research while complying with the government’s social distancing guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The over IP system provided full, unrestricted access to the university’s facilities, including research equipment, with no compatibility issues. Because PCs were loaded onto mobile racks, the remote operation facilitated by the CN9600s can be moved around and connected to different equipment in each research facility as needed.

The over IP system solution is also flexible and scalable; since one CN9600 unit is used with one PC, the system is simple, flexible and expandable, when users need it to be scaled up to cover more research facilities. The system also allows students and faculty members to resume research activities via remote access from any external location that is designated safe, either elsewhere on campus, or even from home.

The system also features high interoperability and is compatible with a range of OS, including Windows, Mac, Linux, Oracle’s SPARC, and VT100 based serial devices.
