Australia's CyberCX launches in NZ
Australia’s largest homegrown cybersecurity organisation, CyberCX, has set up shop in New Zealand, and plans to build a dedicated security operations centre in the nation.
The company also plans to build up a specialised cybersecurity workforce in the market, hiring more than 100 employees in the next year, as part of a NZ$30 million stage one investment in the nation.
CyberCX has revealed it plans to roll out a full suite of cybersecurity services aimed at New Zealand’s business, enterprise and government sectors.
These services will encompass the key cybersecurity domains of consult and advisory; governance, risk and compliance; incident response; penetration testing and assurance; security integration and engineering; and managed security services.
The plan also involves expanding existing offices in Wellington and Auckland and opening a new office in Christchurch.
CyberCX CEO John Paitaridis said the company is building its New Zealand platform to deliver end-to-end cybersecurity services, supported by investment in systems, processes, tools and a centralised support structure that enables frontline teams to focus on delivering great services to customers.
“New Zealand is a natural market focus for CyberCX. With the exponential growth in the number of cyber attacks on Australian and New Zealand businesses and government agencies, and the aggressive tactics we are seeing from threat actors, we need to significantly bolster our trans-Tasman cyber capability to secure our companies and sovereign interests,” he said.
“In particular [this includes] Australian and New Zealand critical infrastructure including utilities, agricultural, financial systems, logistics and supply chain. Never has this been more important than during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Paitaridis said it’s well past time Australia and New Zealand had a security company able to operate at scale and protect local businesses and companies.
“For too long we have relied on international companies for cyber services, where their interests don’t always align,” he said.
“We are fiercely independent and driven by our purpose to protect the communities we serve. We are uniquely focused on delivering mission-critical cybersecurity services to New Zealand and Australia, leveraging our 500-plus cybersecurity specialists on both sides of the Tasman.”
