Telecom New Zealand International (TNZI) has upgraded the capacity and security of its international network with several routers and security gateways.

The company provides internet, data, voice and mobile services around the world, with network infrastructure placed throughout the US, UK, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.

TNZI was experiencing growing demand for its services both in New Zealand and internationally. The telco went looking for a solution that could drive network monetisation by supporting all of its existing services at scale, while allowing for the quick introduction of new services.

By upgrading this globally placed network infrastructure, TNZI is expecting to enhance the responsiveness and efficiency of service delivery to consumer, business and wholesale customers across its common international network platform.

The network upgrade consists of Juniper Networks M-series routers and Integrated Security Gateways.

“We have built a service-enabling network infrastructure that will reduce and simplify the changes needed to accelerate the deployment of new revenue generating services,” said Charles Jarvie, head of International Technology and Operations, TNZI.

The edge routing platforms offer IP/MPLS edge routing services at scale. Constructed with a separation between the control plane, forwarding plane and services plane, the routers support multiple services on a single platform, minimising operational and capital costs.

In particular, TNZI is deploying the M320 and M120 multi-service edge routers, which rely on the single source-code-based JUNOS software.

The Juniper Networks ISG 2000 is a purpose-built, high-performance integrated security gateway that provides unmatched firewall and IPSec VPN performance for the latest internet applications and multimedia content. TNZI selected the ISG 2000 for its flexibility and reliability, and upgradability to include full intrusion detection and prevention (IDP) capabilities through an optional integrated security module.
