Arbor Networks, Jigsaw expand Digital Attack Map
Security company Arbor Networks and Jigsaw, an incubator within Google’s parent company, Alphabet, have developed an enhanced version of the DDoS attack visualisation tool the Digital Attack Map.
The map, a tool designed to provide live visualisation of DDoS attacks being mounted around the world, has been enhanced to enable faster, more accurate updating.
Enhancements to the map were applied by the team at Arbor Networks’ Sydney development centre.
The map collects its data from Arbor Networks’ Active Threat Level Analysis System (ATLAS) threat monitoring network. ATLAS collects 140 Tbps of anonymous traffic data from around 330 service provider customers.
A change in architecture for the ATLAS system has allowed the map to move from batch to real-time processing to ensure the data is as up to date and accurate as possible. The map can now provide 20 times the data compared to the previous version.
“DDoS attacks are growing at an alarming rate in terms of size, frequency and complexity. They are the primary threat to the availability of networks, application and online services,” Arbor Networks president Brian McCann said.
“The Digital Attack Map represents just a slice of the rich dataset that we have in ATLAS and it has been brought to visual life by the engineers at Jigsaw, allowing anyone to see DDoS attacks on a global scale or a country-by-country basis.”
Arbor Networks is a subsidiary of application and network performance management company NetScout.
