AusPost to work with DTA on digital identity
Australia Post has entered a partnership with the Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) aimed at bolstering the government’s Digital Identity Framework.
Australia Post will work with the DTA to integrate the identity technology underlying its Digital iD platform into the framework.
The partnership will focus on developing a proof of concept to help government agencies improve their online and over-the-counter service delivery.
Australia Post CEO Ahmed Fahour said millions of government interactions requiring identity verification via the provision of at least two forms of ID take place each year.
“Our research shows these processes cost the Australian economy up to $11 billion a year in proving identity alone, and can be unlocked by making it easy, safe and secure to prove that you are who you say you are when interacting online,” he said.
“We envisage an identity solution, like Digital iD, could unlock significant benefits for everyday Australians doing business with government.”
The Digital Identity Framework is the underlying framework for the planned Govpass whole-of-government online identity verification service, first announced in March.
As well as the digital identity project, Australia Post is calling on the government to use its digital identity framework to enable online voting for elections.
