Its integration with CommVault Simpana software allows management of both Snapshot copies and replication in the existing Simpana environment.

SnapProtect software combines high-speed Snapshot copies and disk-to-disk replication with traditional tape backup processes, accelerating NetApp data protection and enabling users to customise a strategy based on cost, compliance and recovery objectives.

The software leverages NetApp’s storage efficiency technologies, reducing storage usage on primary and secondary disks by up to a claimed 90%.

Snapshot copy creation, replication and movement to tape are all managed from a unified console, enabling users to respond faster to issues, streamline operations and simplify management. A unified catalogue tracks backups across disk and tape, accelerating search and restore operations.

The software tightly integrates with virtualisation, database, collaboration and messaging applications to enable faster backup and granular, application-specific restores.

Through integration with CommVault Simpana 9 software, Snapshot copies and SnapVault replication can be provisioned and managed within a user’s existing environment. The integration includes seamless Snapshot copy to SnapVault backup to tape policy support, SnapMirror replication support, enhanced hypervisor and database support, and automated secondary storage provisioning.
