Apple recalling AC adapters due to shock risk

Apple is recalling AC wall plug adapters designed for use in markets including Australia due to the potential of electrical shock under rare circumstances.

The two-prong adapters shipping with Mac and certain iOS devices between 2003 and 2015 are being recalled because in rare cases they may break and create the shock risk. Apple said it is aware of 12 such incidents worldwide.

Adapters included in the Apple World Travel Adapter Kit are also being recalled. The adapters were also sold in New Zealand, Argentina, Brazil, Continental Europe and South Korea. Adapters designed for use in other markets are not affected.

Customers with the affected adapters will be able to exchange them for redesigned ones at Apple Stores, through authorised providers or by contacting customer support.

Apple’s recall comes just days after Microsoft commenced a global recall of power cords for some models of its Surface Pro tablets due to overheating concerns.

This issue involved damage done to the charger as a result of cords being twisted or pinched for extended periods.
