Microsoft unveils new Windows 10 devices
Microsoft is aiming to build on Windows 10's momentum by introducing new hybrid tablet, mobile, wearable and other devices running the operating system.
The company has introduced new versions of its Surface line of tablet/laptop hybrid devices, the Surface Book and the Surface Pro 4.
The ultrathin Surface Book laptop line uses Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processors. It has a 13.5″ detachable touch-screen display and an optional discrete GPU. In Australia, prices start at $2299.
The Surface Pro 4 is a mere 8.4 mm thick, includes a 12.3″ display and uses Intel Core M, Core i5 or Core i7 processors and boasts nine hours of battery life. This line of devices will be priced starting at $1349. Both lines of devices will be available to pre-order from October 7.
Besides the Surface tablets, Microsoft has shown off the first Windows 10 Lumia smartphones designed by the company. The Lumia 950 and 950 XL and the lower-cost Lumia 550 smartphones are due to launch in Australia before Christmas.
Microsoft also announced its latest foray into the emerging wearables market with the Microsoft Band 2 fitness wearable, available for pre-order in select markets as of 6 October.
Finally, Microsoft has started inviting applications for Microsoft HoloLens Development Edition, the developer-friendly build of its innovative untethered holographic computer.
