New Zealanders hungry for mobile data

Data traffic sent over Telecom New Zealand’s mobile network grew 91% in August compared to the same month a year ago, according to data released by the operator.

The average mobile customer consumed 384 MB of data over the Telecom NZ mobile network during the month - up 6.2% from July and 63.2% from August 2012.

By comparison, average data use per active registration on the operator’s Wi-Fi network increased 8% sequentially to 287 MB. Total data use over the Telecom NZ Wi-Fi network has grown 23% in the last month.

The operator also released some figures regarding the peak traffic period of the All Blacks vs South Africa game at Eden Park in the middle of this month.

Telecom NZ estimates that fans at the game uploaded around 14 GB of data across all mobile networks, downloaded around 25 GB of data and sent around 150,000 texts.
