BlackBerry has announced that the Priv smartphone, the first of its smartphone range to be powered by Android, is now available from Optus in Australia on a range of post-paid plans.
The thin device features a 5.4″ immersive dual-curve OLED display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and pixel density of 540 PPI, as well as an 18 MP camera. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor with 32 GB of onboard storage and support for micro SD cards up to 2 TB, giving users the flexibility to add hot-swappable storage to download, install, capture and share content. Users can switch between a virtual or physical keyboard.
The smartphone has been designed with security at its core with advanced privacy controls such as the DTEK by BlackBerry app for Android that monitors and reports on application access to the microphone, camera, location and personal information to keep personal data private. It is also injected with cryptographic keys into the device hardware, providing a secure foundation for the entire platform. It can be integrated with BlackBerry’s EMM solution and BES 12, which offers cross-platform management of PRIV and other devices, providing a full end-to-end security solution.
The smartphone also provides access to thousands of apps on the Google Play store. It comes with a 3410 mAh battery, enough power to work up to 22.5 h of mixed usage.
