Berkley Insurance Australia transforms digital infrastructure

Nutanix has helped Berkley Insurance Australia (BIA) supercharge its IT infrastructure, delivering cutting-edge digital performance to its 135 underwriters, claims managers and supporting workforce, while allowing its skilled technical staff to focus on service delivery, innovation and cybersecurity.

BIA is a specialist insurance provider that prides itself on delivering fast and attentive service to local brokers and their clients, ranging from development of quick quotes, risk submissions, binding policies and claims support. The organisation recognised that the existing technology — used to power core underwriting and claims systems — was not likely to match future business requirements, according to the IT infrastructure manager at Berkley Asia Pacific Services, Jamie Rojas.

“Our underwriting and claims system is an important part of our business. From policy issue to claims processing, my role is to ensure IT isn’t a bottleneck to business operations. When we determined that our old system may not support future business needs, we went to market for something that is simpler to manage, more resilient and [with] improved performance,” Rojas said.

To mitigate the emerging risk, BIA selected Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure, which is designed to provide a smooth migration and retain superior performance. Rojas said the underlying infrastructure engine is what empowers BIA’s fast response times, which have largely contributed to its recognition as Insurer of the Year at the Insurance Business Brokers on Insurers 2023 awards. The technology’s streamlined management capability has also given back crucial time to the IT team, allowing them to work on more innovative projects, including bolstering BIA’s cybersecurity posture.

In other projects, the BIA IT team has developed and launched bindIT, an automated broker portal — powered by Nutanix technology — that is designed to make the lives of its brokers and their clients easier.
