Macquarie Telecom extends deal with Kelsian Group
Macquarie Telecom has signed a renewed contract with travel and transport company Kelsian Group to provide mobile, cloud and SD-WAN network services.
The multi-year, multimillion-dollar contract builds on Macquarie Telecom’s longstanding existing relationship with Transit Systems, which Kelsian Group acquired late last year for $635 million.
Under the agreement, Macquarie Telecom will provide SD-WAN services across more than 35 locations for Kelsian’s Australian Public Transport division. The contract also covers the provision of Azure managed cloud services.
Kelsian’s public transport division’s mobile services have also been migrated to the Optus 5G network, which Macquarie Telecom uses as an MVNO. Now Kelsian Group is exploring migrating more of its mobile fleet to the network.
Kelsian Group CIO Chris Benson said Macquarie was able to convince the company to retain and expand its Transit Systems contract following the merger.
“In a transformative merger like we had with Kelsian Group and Transit Systems, there’s a lot of going back to the drawing board to ensure supply partners are equipped to service the new structure. Macquarie Telecom really had to justify its position in the new Kelsian Group and ultimately Macquarie’s efficiency and customer service made all the difference,” Benson said.
“The team has become an extension of our own and is helping to educate our IT personnel — particularly in Azure skills, which are in high demand.”
