Zscaler expands Australian presence

Cloud security company Zscaler has launched a new co-located data centre in Perth to support its expanding Australian operations. The new site, co-located at an Equinix Perth data centre, will complement Zscaler’s existing data centre infrastructure in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra, all of which are also located within Equinix data centres.

Zscaler plans to use the data centre to support its Zscaler Zero Trust Exchange platform, which includes solutions such as Zscaler Private Access and Zscaler Internet Access. The platform has secured an Information Registered Assessors’ Program assessment, enabling its use to manage government data up to the Protected classification level.

Zscaler Area Vice President for Australia and New Zealand Eric Swift said the company is expanding its investment in the Australian market in light of the Australian Government’s goal of becoming the most cybersecure nation in the world by 2030.

“With the advent of new technologies like GenAI tools, the threat landscape is advancing in volume and sophistication, making it all the more critical to adopt a Zero Trust approach to cybersecurity — especially as more organisations move beyond legacy private network to connect in a cloud-enabled, mobile world,” he said. “Australia is setting the benchmark on the global stage when it comes to being cybersecurity-first and we are proud to partner with both public and private enterprises across the region to implement a Zero Trust strategy. We are deeply committed to helping all organisations to secure, simplify and transform their operations.”

The company’s research meanwhile found that phishing attacks targeting the nation have surged 479% in the past year, Swift said.

Zscaler’s existing customer base in Australia includes clients such as John Holland, Probe CX, Northern Beaches Council and Ramsay Healthcare.
