Applications open for ACMA telco forum
Consumer representatives have been invited by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) to join its key telco advisory group.
The Consumer Consultative Forum (CCF) brings together representatives from consumer and industry groups and government to advise the ACMA on appropriate telco consumer safeguards. This has recently included providing valuable feedback on the ACMA’s new rules to better protect consumers moving to nbn-based services.
Successful applicants to the CCF will be appointed for three years and will join the permanent members of the group.
“Communications services are increasingly central to Australia’s economic and social wellbeing. We want to better understand the consumers’ needs in the contemporary and future communications environment,” said ACMA Chair Nerida O’Loughlin.
“To effectively undertake our work, the ACMA needs to hear the voices of consumers through their representative bodies. These organisations can also be providers of important telco safeguard information to their members.”
The ACMA seeks applications from consumer advocacy bodies, and other organisations familiar with the needs of consumers.
“The ACMA is particularly interested in hearing from organisations that can represent young people, people with disabilities, people living in rural areas, older Australians and non-English-speaking communities,” said O’Loughlin.
CCF consumer members must be an organisation that meets criteria available on the ACMA website.
