Cloudera integrates with Snowflake

Data, analytics and AI platform provider Cloudera has announced an integration with AI data cloud company Snowflake to develop an open data lakehouse powered by Apache Iceberg. The collaboration will enable joint customers to leverage the combination of Cloudera and Snowflake across all their data, analytics and AI workloads.

Cloudera has extended its Open Data Lakehouse interoperability to Snowflake, allowing access to Cloudera’s data lakehouse via its Apache Iceberg REST catalogue.

Users will be able to take advantage of an optimised data platform, with Snowflake users now able to query data stored on Cloudera’s Ozone object storage solution directly from the Snowflake platform, and Cloudera customers able to make use of Snowflake’s Business Intelligence engine.

Eliminating data and metadata silos, rationalising data pipelines and streamlining operational efforts will allow joint customers to achieve a significant reduction in the total cost of ownership of their data stacks, Cloudera Chief Strategy Officer Abhas Ricky said.

“By extending our open data lakehouse capabilities through Apache Iceberg to Snowflake, we’re enabling our customers to not only optimise their data workflows but also unlock new opportunities for innovation, efficiency and growth,” he said. “This will help customers simplify their data architecture, minimise data pipelines and reduce total cost of ownership of their data estate while reducing security risks.”

“Our partnership expands what’s possible for customers. We are excited to break down silos and deliver a unified hybrid data cloud experience with multi-function analytics to all of our customers,” said Snowflake Head of Technology Alliances Tarik Dwei.
